Taking Time With Making A Decision On Your Home Entertainment

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Purchasing a television is a lot different now than previously. When shopping for a new television back in the day, you only had two basic decisions to make. The first being, how large of a TV you actually need or want. The second, being how much money do you have or want to spend on the television. If you were also in the market for a home theater set up, you still only needed to know how big your TV was going to be.

Compared to the past experience of purchasing a television, things are much more complicated. Technology is constantly improving, and you can possibly find yourself with a new, obsolete, piece of equipment if you are not properly informed. You should know how you are going to be using your television, primarily. If you are going to gaming or watching movies, or just watching television, are things to consider. You might want to think about buying a DVD player that can convert your TV to 1080p, or just go with BluRay.. Regardless, your first decision is the TV itself.

The first thing to decide is whether to choose plasma or LCD or DLP. There are pros and cons to all three choices. What type of entertainment your household will be partaking in will likely decide which way to go. Plasma TBS have a better contrast between colors, than LCD. Fast moving objects appear clearer with plasma, as well. On an LCD, this will appear as ghosting images. This dilemma is quickly being worked out, as the refresh rate on LCD’s is getting faster, almost equaling that of the plasma. The cost of an LCD id less than a plasma TV of equal size. There is less heat emitted with LCD’s as well as it being more energy efficient.

In a darker room, plasma will look better. It has more vivid colors. If you will be watching TV in a lighter room, LCD’s work great. This allows the TV to be placed in any room of the house. DLP offers yet another choice. The image of DLPs are made up of tiny mirrors and the picture can be as good as the plasma or the LCD.

The DLP sizes can be much bigger than the plasma and even bigger still than the LCD. For true HD quality on a television under 42 inches, the LCD is the winner. If you are looking for BluRay or true HD in a smaller size, this will be a better choice for cost purposes as well as truest picture quality.

A Short Summary Of Latest Lg Lcd Televisions Available On General Sale To Date

Friday, January 1st, 2010

The LG LCD televisions range consists of TVs starting with a screen size of 15″ up to 50″. LG’s latest range is the REGZA; it includes some of Toshiba’s most recent developments and exclusive innovations. These features such as the Meta Brain and Autoview will be discussed below.

All of T LCD Televisions now come with 1080 resolution functionality so all of your high definition viewing needs can be met.

The Meta brain provides all of the TVs power allowing for The Activevision II and Resolution+ features to be fully utilized. Without the Meta Brain these functions would not be possible.

Active-Vision II is LGs picture processing unit for which they have received awards and great acclaim. It provides amazing pictures increasing picture detail and reducing flickering of the picture during action scenes.

Resolution is aimed to try and make standard definition feeds as good as HD feeds. The feature increases the edge detail of the picture and also increases the textual content resulting in a picture almost as good as HD an impressive feat considering standard definition contains about half as much information.

Autoview adjusts the backlight of the TV automatically to achieve a brightness that is comparable to the brightness of the room. In a dark room the backlight is dimmed whilst in a light room the brightness is increased meaning whatever time of day it is you will always be able to view the screen well.

As high quality pictures is not enough for TVs to produce these days LG have included an audio system worthy of the picture quality. A feature for increasing the bass tones of the deepest sounds has been included, bass boost whilst there is also the option for digital sound to be connected via one of its output connections.

A Game mode is included to allow for a natural gaming environment to be achieved at the click of a button meaning you gain the upper hand when faced with online adversaries.

All of the LGs come with the standard TV connections; SCART, RCA and Component but also come with a number of HDMI connections, dependant on model, and other digital connections such as a Digital audio out and most come with a PC input too.

All in all the LG LCD televisions range are excellent, they exceed in all of the aspects that a TV is expected, excellent picture quality and manipulation of the picture whilst outputting sound of the highest quality. All this technology is reasonably priced and means a high quality TV is not out of everyone’s reach. I believe that these TVs are probably the second best TVs available to date with only the Sony Bravia ahead but then with the prices of the Bravia’s this is to be expected.

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

There are many good HDTV’s to choose for your home. The Samsung LN46B750 is one that would make a nice addition to any living room. It’s smooth, solid, and has a nice shinny black finish. Underneath that aesthetically appealing case is a workhorse of a TV with plenty of features. But you don’t have to take my word for it, let the specifications speak for themselves.

This is a 46-inch LCD HDTV, which is perfect for home or office use. It is of a moderate size, which makes it a great fit for any room of the home. There may be a fine line between too large of a television and something too small, but the Samsung LN46B750 walks that line perfectly. It come with a resolution of 1920 X 1080 and has full 1080 P support.

The actual screen size is 45.9 inches and it has a widescreen format. It comes with a contrast ratio of 1,500,00:1 and a response time of 2 milliseconds. The sound is provided by two speakers that run a 5 watts each, which means a total wattage power of 10. There is also audio balancing and SRS TruSurround HD system.

There are 4 HDMI cable inputs with 3 on the back and 1 on the side. There are two sets of composite AV inputs, 1 on the rear, and 1 on the side. There are also 2 sets of component inputs on the rear of the unit. An Ethernet cable slot, and a pc input slot are also supported on the rear of the unit.

The Samsung LN46B750 also supports Picture in a Picture, Game Mode, HDMI-CEG, and DLNA. It has a built in digital tuner for over the air digital broadcasts, and is energy star compliant. Dimensions and weight of the unit are 43.9 inches wide, 30 inches high, 10.8 inches deep with the stand attached, and it weights 54.2 pounds with the stand attached. Without the stand it’s 3.1 inches deep, and weighs 43.4 pounds.

The Samsung LN46B750 also comes with a one year parts and labor warranty on the television unit. There is also in home service and telephone support that comes with it. This certainly can come in handy if anything were to happen to the television. It has also scored very well in customer reviews, getting an average 4 out of 5 stars. They only complaints usually were more about nit picking than anything else.

Most of the small complaints are just about sunlight glare from the shiny case and the remote not being of the highest quality. There are not real complaints about the unit itself because it does seem to perform very well for watching movies, television, and playing video games.

With all of that said, if you are considering the purchase of a new television for watching movies, playing games, or for general use, you will want to keep the Samsung LN46B750 in mind. Even though it does not have every single feature out there, it is a good quality television for the price of the unit, which is right around $2,300 USD. This is an average price of what you will find for a television of this quality.

My Top 5 Xbox 360 Games of All-Time

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

It’s amazingly been 3 whole years since I bought my Xbox 360, and I thought I’d give a quick rundown about the best games I’ve ever owned. I have a slight partiality toward sports games, so there may be a bit of a bias here. Don’t hold it against me. Nonetheless, this is about my favorites, so whatever I say goes!

5- Tiger Woods golf. I’ve always been a huge fan of this series, dating back to my high school days when the game had first come out on the Playstation system. This is as real as it gets as far as golf games go, and amazingly, the game seems to improve each time they release a new version. I love it.

4- John Madden football. I don’t even know which year to choose, I love this game so much, but if we’re talking about the Xbox 360, we have to go with the most recent one, Madden 2010. This is an exceptional football game, and after getting it wrong during the first release for the 360, the Madden series has returned to its former glory.

3. Fight Night Round 3. A classic boxing game that came out right after the launch of the Xbox 360 console. Somehow, it still feels just as new and relevant today. How many games can you say that about four years later? Enough said.

2. Call of Duty 4. The very definition of online play was changed with this game, and it was all for the better. Multi-player gaming was never as fun as it was once this game came out, and I still can’t think of a game I’d rather play online.

1. Rock Band. This one may bug some pure “gamers”, but the most fun I’ve ever had on an Xbox 360 has come from playing Rock Band, hands down. Did I mention I’m a music lover too?

How Methods Of Music Storage Have Evolved

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

The music industry is one of the world’s biggest industries. It has been this way for many decades and it doesn’t appear to be deteriorating. Recently people are more and more able to download music for free illegally on the Internet which is creating problems in terms of the amount of money that can be made by musical artists.

Physical hardware such as vinyl record and record tape used to be the only way in which you were able to acquire music. The first changes came about with the first CD that was produced.

The first medium to store music digitally so that it can be stored as a file and then put onto a computer and played was of course the CD. This was then the very first steps of the birth of the mp3.

From that, music storage adapted to the point where it was completely unrecognisable to the way it was stored in say, the 60s. In around 20 years the way we listen to music went from having to have access to a record player, which were by no means small, and your desired record, to simply having to have a device no bigger than the palm of your hand to which you can add or remove songs as and when you feel like it.

Being able to listen to music has become so much easier over the years and it has also become a considerable amount cheaper. From many different websites music can now be brought and downloaded; this is usually done in an mp3 format. This process is a lot cheaper than going to the shops and buying a CD. This is causing people to favour the downloading of the mp3 more and more and this is causing the need to create CD less and less. This also means that companies’ costs are less so they do not need to charge as much to cover them.

Tips For Shopping Online For Electronics

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Over the years online shopping has basically become second nature to the majority of the population. However, I still hear my fair share of horror stories involved with online purchases, especially when it comes to electronics. This is rather surprising, considering how far ecommerce has come, but you still need to use a certain level of caution.

Generally it is very safe and secure to buy from the big name companies on the internet, for example: staples, amazon.com, and walmart etc. However, when you start to look for the places with the lowest prices, such as eBay and craigslist, that is when you start having to really use your head, and use caution at all times (even more so with electronics).

We will just cover eBay in this article, since craigslist does not generally offer many electric based products. The most important thing to look for by far when using eBay, is the user feedback rating of the person you are purchasing from. If they do not have a feedback of at least 100 or more, and a positive rating of at lest 98.5% or greater, then you should seriously consider moving on.

Another big thing to take into consideration is the return policy, especially when dealing with electronics. Many electronics, for example, the popular electronic airsoft guns, have a fairly high chance of being defective. But as long as the product is backed by a reasonable return policy, you should be safe 99% of the time.

Last, but certainly not least, make sure that you completely read the details of the product for sale before you buy it. A lot of the times people who sell on eBay do not mention in the title of their auction, the fact that an item may be broken, or need repair, and have a major flaw or defect. So basically just be sure to read the fine print before you make a purchase. If you follow these 3 important rules of thumb, then chances are you will be completely safe when buying electronics online from eBay.

This article was written by internet veteran, William Elmiric, who has been safely shopping online for well over 10 years now. When it comes to buying electronics from eBay, follow his advice, and you are sure to be safe 99% of the time or more. Just follow his advice outlined in the examples above and you will be safe.

Picking Out The Right Song To Sing On Stage

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

The largest determination that anyone has to make for karaoke is what song they should undertake on stage. There are literally hundred of thousands of tracks accessible with most karaoke sets, so it can be discouraging looking through the great book of songs, but if you keep in mind a few points it will make your night simpler, and render as much enjoyment as possible.

First, make sure that you choose a karaoke track that accommodates your articulation. Whether it is your 1st time or 101st time, you have to make sure that you can reach at least majority of the musical notes you need. If you have a low voice, there is no point of opting music stars like Celine Dion or Whitney Houston, and the same goes for high-pitch voices; Barry White should be out of the question. Rather choose karaoke tracks that fit within your range, and that way instead of concerning about if you can hit that powerful note coming up, you will be able to unwind and just enjoy the song.

Choosing the correct karaoke track also depends on what you are getting up stage for. If you are with acquaintances, and looking at getting up as a group for a bit of fun, it is wise to choose an up-tempo song that accommodates your mood instead of a dull ballad. If you are a regular, and want to take something a bit more serious, there is nothing wrong in picking out a slower song if you can address it.

If you’re celebrating an adult / older folks birthday with a karaoke party. You want to understand what songs to opt. Do your homework. You don’t want to select any old karaoke song; you require to select karaoke music that stirs a feel of nostalgia. Identify what songs were modern when the party honoree grew up. Your easiest bet is to identify the top 10 songs of each year or decade and construct your play list round those songs.

But a minute point to think about most karaoke bars is that most individuals are out to have a good time, so selecting a slow and depressing song that does not truly fit the ambiance of the room can have drastic impressions.

Ultimately, when selecting your karaoke song it is better to find a song with a melodic line and words that you are at least intimate with. You do not have to recognise every song you get up stage for off by heart (thats why the karaoke screens are there to aid you) but selecting a karaoke song that you have heard more than once or twice will give you a bit more confidence in singing on stage.

NFL Admits to Error in Planning at Cowboys Stadium

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

The subject of much NFL chatter these days has revolved around the new video unit inside the brand new Cowboys Stadium. This is the largest high definition video unit in existence, and is one of many luxuries present in the new stadium. There was an event that took place a few weeks ago that leads many to believe there was poor planning with respect to this unit.

Just a few weeks ago, during the first ever game played inside Cowboys Stadium, the team faced off against the Tennessee Titans in a preseason football game. During this game, a ball was kicked by Tennessee’s punter. The punted ball went high enough to hit the video unit, leading to immediate concerns that its height must be adjusted.

Fortunately, the NFL is not only taking the blame for poor planning, but has vowed to fix the issue as quickly as it possibly can.

This report essentially states that Ray Anderson, who heads up operations for the league, admitted that the league should have done some more research into the ideal height for this video screen, as it could clearly be an issue during the season.

Anderson has come out and stated that the height estimations that the NFL put together were way off base, and that the planning done with respect to this unit was far from proper. The league kind of just “winged it”, assuming that 85 or 90 feet would be ample as far as the height went. He also promised that the issue will be fixed as soon as possible.

Jerry Jones, owner of the dallas Cowboys, also vowed to correct the issue. Until the unit itself can be moved, he’s stated that an ad hanging from the bottom of the unit will be taken away.

This video unit has a reported value of $40 million, and spans over 60 yards in length, as it extends from the 20 yard line, all the way to the other one. The height of this board is 73 feet.

At the end of the day, this is an issue that must be dealt with. The stadium is a beautiful one, but there’s no question that playability is more important than glitz when it comes down to it. Look for a quick solution to the issue based on the above.
