Leather Cowboy Hats Bring High Fashion To Everyday Wear

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Cowboy hats are back in fashion and everyone just loves them! They bring back memories of a lifestyle that made America the great nation it is today. Hardworking, rugged outdoorsmen who battled the elements on a daily basis. The hat they wore was their only protection from sun, rain, sleet, snow, and dusty winds. No wonder it was tough, as tough as they were. And the toughest of them all is the leather cowboy hat. The lifestyle has all but disappeared but the leather cowboy hat remains, a silent witness to the resilience of those nation-builders. The leather cowboy hat is as tough as ever, and has its own handsome looks. They are hard wearing, yet easy on the head, so you can wear one comfortably all day.

The choice of leather as a material for a cowboy hat was no accident. It was chosen because of its superior durability and resistance to harsh weather conditions. At the same time it was comfortable for the wearer. A cowboy hat made of leather took the shape of the wearer’s head. Though the leather cowboy hat blocked the wind, the cold and the heat from affecting the wearer’s head, it could breathe and this kept the wearer comfortable in the summer. On top of all that, it looked dashing and very masculine! This is the reason it became so popular. You can get a leather cowboy hat in any color from off white to black to match your clothes, your complexion or your hair.

Cowboy hats of different materials like straw and felt are very popular but those of leather have the best appearance. These hats have what is called ‘character’ which sets them apart from the other varieties. That’s the reason why film stars, singers and celebrities of every hue sport these great looking hats, to be stylish.

Another reason for leather’s dominance is that it is extremely durable in all sorts of weather, and that’s why leather cowboy hats are reliable and effective protection for the wearer in the severest of environmental conditions. Straw is very good and light, but its lightness is its very weakness! It cannot last one season in the rain or snow, and as for the sun, the sunlight and its heat easily pass through the straw weave and affect the wearer’s head! Felt cowboy hats afford much better protection from the weather than straw cowboy hats. But they are hard to maintain. They deform easily when wet, and are prone to breaking up with rough handling. Besides many wearers complain that a felt cowboy hat feels like a cardboard hat! The bottom line is that leather cowboy hats are well worth the high price tag that they come with.

Your leather cowboy hat requires little or no maintenance. An occasional brush down will keep it looking as good as new even after many months of service. If the leather cowboy hat does get soiled, you need only to give it a gentle wipe using a good quality leather cleaner. If it is thoroughly soaked just let it it dry out on its own. Do not attempt to hasten the drying process! The leather cowboy hat may alter its shape and size if it is exposed to heat or breeze when it is wet.

A leather cleaner is recommended for getting grime out of the grain of the leather cowboy hat. Choose a high quality cleaner which is formulated to maintain the natural oils in the leather itself. The natural oils prolong the leather’s life and hence, the hat’s life. Ask a reliable vendor of high quality leather wear about the best leather cleaner for your hat. Always make it a point to test the cleaner on a hidden patch, before using it on the whole hat.

You may want to get your leather cowboy hat cleaned by a professional cleaning service. Many stores carrying high quality leatherwear provide this service. Store away your leather cowboy hat if you are not going to wear it for some time. Storing it in a cool place away from strong heat and light sources, and away from direct sunlight, will prevent it from losing its shape and color.

Leather cowboy hats are very high-priced when compared to straw and felt cowboy hats. The initial expense is offset by the great good looks of the leather cowboy hat. Secondly, they are very durable, and will easily last a lifetime. Become the cynosure of all eyes - wear a handsome leather cowboy hat!

Good Grooming For Your Felt Cowboy Hat

Monday, August 31st, 2009

A felt cowboy hat says a lot of the person whose head is snug inside it. No doubt you spent a lot of time getting the exact right hat that suited you perfectly. A lot of time and money and aggravation! That’s quite an investment riding on your head, now, ain’t it? Sure you don’t want to squander it away out of negligence. You take care of it, good, proper care, the investment will grow richer as the years pass, aging gracefully, acquiring a character of its own. I can see you, ten, twenty years from now, talking about the hat to your grandson, on a chilly night, in the warm glow of a backyard campfire.

Your great looking felt cowboy hat won’t look great if it is all grimy and dirty. Getting the dirt out of a felt cowboy hat is the devil itself. The felt is likely to get damaged in the process, too. As the old saying goes: ‘An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure’. It means that instead of spending time over cleaning the hat up, it will be better not to let the hat get soiled in the first place! The most common reason of soilage is the sweat and grime that gets transferred from your hands to the hat when you pick it up, or position it on your head. Moral: Make sure your hands are clean afore touching that felt cowboy hat.

Another simple way to prevent soilage is to handle the hat by the brim, never by the crown! Apart from preventing soilage, this will help to keep the hat in good shape. The more you handle the crown, the more it will get out of shape. There’s nothing worse than a bedraggled hat sitting on top of your head, I’ll say!

Keep the felt cowboy hat in its own box. If you don’t have the box for the hat, then hang the hat on a hat stand. The hat should be stored upside down to help it keep its shape.

Protect the hat from strong heat sources. That means you don’t leave the hat near the radiator or the furnace. Doing so will shrink the sweat band and that means you’ll not be able to get the hat to fit you again!

Getting your felt cowboy hat wet is not going to improve its looks or its shape. Felt does not take kindly to water. It gets all shrunk up, and crumpled, and bedraggled. Felt doesn’t get back into shape very easily. If your felt cowboy hat does get wet, the best thing to do is to let it dry out. This must be done naturally. Do not attempt to use a hair drier on it or a blower to get it to dry faster. There is a trick or two in getting your felt cowboy hat to dry out properly. Rest the hat on the sweat band not the brim. Turn the sweat band inside out, so that it forms a sort of collar on which the hat can rest without putting the weight on the brim. You will have to apply a little finishing touch here and there to work the creases out of the hat.

A good quality felt cowboy hat can take an occasional drizzle. Still, if you value your felt cowboy hat you will use a hat cover. Use the hat cover when you’re wearing the hat outdoors and it looks like rain. Using the hat cover to keep the hat dry will add years to its life.

I hope you understood the tips in this article. They’ll help in keeping your felt cowboy hat in perfect condition for a long time to come.

Why pay retail for costly felt cowboy hats when you can get it for much less. We’ll show you where to find the best prices at www.discountcowboyhats.net. Whether you’re searching for Resistol, Stetson cowboy hats, or any other brand, you can get a quality hat for less than you think.

Womens Plus Size Shorts ” Exile Back From The Brink

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

The thought of wearing a pair of womens plus size shorts used to be enough to give me a very bad headache. In fact even pictures of scrawny models, sliding into their denim shorts sent me straight to the fridge for a giant bowl of ice cream. But no more, finally there is an answer for the plus size women when it comes to summertime wear.

Leave the wide breathable long pants and floor length skirts to the moths in the wardrobe, plus size clothing designers have heard our cries. Gone are the days when the swimwear store only stocked 3 plus size swimsuits in the entire store, all designed for your grandmother. Gone are the days when curvy plus size women were expected to cover up from head to toe.

Because the plus size woman now have their own designers, short skirts and shorts in no longer something other women wear. Lets look at what you can do to get the most out of your plus size closet.

Clothing in larger sizes is not the same as plus size clothing. Clothing designed for plus size women have special alterations made to the style and design. For example armholes in dress shirts are bigger and there will be more ease over the shoulders for dresses, shirts and jackets. Trouser legs are also wider in the thigh than pants designed for small sizes.

A great pair of plus size shorts will be wider around the hips, this rule also goes for pants and dresses. You should try to find a pair that hits slightly above the knees and around mid thigh. A nice flat from with clean lines will always look great.

Look for elastic waistbands on knit pants, and even on dress pants, because they will help keep pants and shorts from binding at the waist, and will feel more comfortable when worn for long periods of time. However elastic sleeves are a definite no-no.

And when summer arrives you can pull on your women’s plus size shorts, match with your favorite t-shirt and comfy flats and enjoy.

More than anything make sure you have fun while you shop for your women’s plus size shorts. If you love what you are wearing it will show in the way you hold and carry yourself. Not only that but the only thing that will be more dazzling than your outfit will be the smile on your face.

Great Looking Straw Cowboy Hats At A Bargain

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

The cowboy hat is steeped in the lore of the Wild West! The hat was an essential feature of outdoor life. It protected the cowboy from the weather, and doubled as a temporary vessel for water. More than 150 years ago John Stetson gave the cowboy hat an aura, a branding which has now turned it into a fashion statement. Straw cowboy hats are as popular today as they were two hundred years ago.

In fact all types of cowboy hats are making it big on the fashion scene. Handsome hunks sport them, and so do svelte supermodels. They are an enduring symbol of the rough, tough, handsome ‘knights’ of the Wild West epitomized by such screen legends as John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. Can you forget that scene between Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef? Central to the scene was a cowboy hat that gets shot up and goes flying up in the air? Fairly makes me tingle, dagnab it!

The busiest type of cowboy hat is the straw cowboy hat. It sees duty in all walks of life. Politicians wear them for their electoral campaigning. The folks who turn up at these campaigns wear them. The campaign staff wears them. It’s so popular with the gardening community that it is available in the gardening section of large stores right there by the secateurs. What’s the right gear for touring? A camera, florid shirt and a straw cowboy hat!

Ever wondered why straw is used to make hats? The open weave design of these beauties is great for keeping a cool head out in the sun. Straw is light on the head, and does a good job of protecting your eyes and head from the sun. Yep, your hair does tend to get a little moist in the rain, though!

The straw cowboy hat can be made from many types of straw. The straw used for making the cowboy hat is not very expensive. Toquilla is a popular variety of straw used in the making of cowboy hats.

Toquilla straw comes from the Ecuadorian palm tree. That’s why the hats made from toquilla straw are often referred to as panama straw hats. Most stores carry this straw hat. They’re generally found in the gardening section, mainly because they’re so popular with the gardeners! And they’re pretty cheap, too!

So, I hope you know why straw cowboy hats are so very popular. They are light on the head, so you don’t feel burdened even after a long time. They’re cool to wear out in the sun. They’re much cheaper than other kinds of cowboy hats. And oh yes, they do keep the sun off of your head, and the sun’s glare from reaching your eyes!

Do You Know Your Hat Size?

Monday, May 25th, 2009

The design and variety of men’s hats are creating a welcome fashion sentiment in society and in the fashion industry in general. If a guy dons something other than a baseball cap, he will probably own several hats, one to fit the occasion. Class. Luxury. Style.

A night on the town deserves a hat of its own. Dancing begs for another kind. And certainly a day meandering through a museum screams for a very different kind of head covering. And that’s not even mentioning the basic covering a man needs when he goes to the beach or is cruising down the highway in his convertible. Let’s forget entirely about the entire hunting and fishing scenery that demands a sporting hat that fits the occasion.

You have your cool, comfortable, affordable, and stylish hats. Not all hats are any of the three. From cowboy and Western-style outback hats to cotton newsboys and linen porkpies (with leather trim of course), from panamas to fedoras, from artsy-fartsy berets to 1001-ways-to-wear-it baseball caps, there are plenty of men’s hats to choose from out there.

What I’m about to explain to you is not a life and death issue but could be embarrassing if not done correctly. Let me explain. You want a fancy lid but you don’t want to meander into a department store or a specialty store and try on hats all day long. But alas, there’s a very easy way to solve this problem: measure.

Men’s hat sizes vary from style to style and from type to type (by the way, if a hat has an adjustable strap inside, it’s probably not all that great on the quality scale) so you want to measure your head first.

Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, if you have the right measuring tool, it’ll take less than a minute. If you don’t have any tools at all, you’ll probably forgo the idea altogether and go out and buy an adjustable baseball cap. How utterly boring is that!

Take out that flexible measuring tape you keep in the toolbox with half a dozen other measuring devices, and wrap it around your head. Start from the middle of your forehead and go all the way around. Mark it with your thumb, then release it. Do it twice to be sure it’s correct, then write down your size. That’s it.

Finally, with your hat size in hand, drop into any of your favorite men’s hats store and walk immediately over to the correct size. You could walk in there without measuring your head first, but that would spoil all the fun when you tell the person who waits on you that you actually know your own correct hat size.

What’s new in Sports apparel?

Monday, April 13th, 2009

What’s your favorite sports apparel? Oh, c’mon, you probably have a lucky BoSox hat or maybe an LA jersey that is your absolute favorite. Most people do.

Whether it is the colors or team spirit that is influencing the buying patterns, we may never know, but sportswear is still “in.” Remember back in the day when it was primarily hats/caps that were worn? Not anymore! There are shirts, tee-shirts, jerseys, caps, hats, and even accessories to go along with every sports team you can think of.

From coast to coast there is a wide variety of followers for any given team. You might see people with Chicago hats in Florida or you might see a Kansas NCAA cap in South Carolina. What it all boils down to is a combination of popular style and team spirit. There are plenty that fall into either category.

One sport that has always made a regular appearance in the apparel scene is soccer. There are millions of people following the top level teams and consider themselves die-hard fans that will always be up to date with the latest apparel. These people will eat, live, die, drink and breathe the sport.

There are few sports left out as the MLB, NCAA, NFL, and NBA all have lines of sports clothing available and believe me, it is being bought! Sports are big business in the US at any level.

Don’t think that the teams aren’t making money off of their licensed logos that adorn all of this sports apparel, because they do. More than that, though, is that the people have chosen a style. Wearing sports clothing is trendy, socially acceptable by most standards and popular. It is so popular that you would be hard pressed NOT to find a sports apparel store in any mall. More often than not there are several.

One thing that is fairly new is having the logos of the teams but not the colors. Maybe they did it to attract more women to wearing sports wear but there are a lot of pink shirts and hats out there with every licensed logo you can think of. Also, for a while, New York had this pale blue color on a lot of the clothing. Hats and tee shirts especially. That threw some folks for a while. The logo and the colors didn’t add up but somehow it all worked out.

Prices vary on the different sports wear that is available but all in all, it is pretty reasonable. Depending on where you shop, of course! Stores try to keep their racks and shelves stacked with the most popular and you can usually find all of the teams at specialty sportswear shops.

Game days are interesting. Everyone dons their team apparel for game day regardless of whether they are going to the game or not. You can see babies with tiny team cheerleader outfits on or grand parents with their tee shirts or caps proudly displaying their team spirit. Of course, some areas have more than one team so the population is divided. Still, team spirit is team spirit! There doesn’t seem to be much conflict though, as long as you are supporting one team or another. Of course that may not be the case when we are talking about, say, Boston and New York!

What’s new in Sports apparel?

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

What’s new in Sports Apparel? Apparently, just that there is a lot more of it around! As it has been for a while now, wearing sports apparel is quite popular. Some people only wear the gear from one or two teams while others have an entire wardrobe full of every team and state in the nation.

It’s pretty interesting to see all of the different sports apparel that is available today. It’s also interesting to see all of the different types of people wearing them. What used to be a “man thing” has grown into a universal thing that has men, women, young, old and even babies donning sports apparel of all kinds.

People from Carolina to Los Angeles and everywhere in between are buying hats, jerseys, tee shirts and even sports related accessories. It seems everyone has a favorite team that they want to support. It doesn’t even necessarily have to be their local team! Take a look around some day while walking down the street or in a local shop. Notice how many people have on at least ONE item that is sports related.

One sport that has always made a regular appearance in the apparel scene is soccer. There are millions of people following the top level teams and consider themselves die-hard fans that will always be up to date with the latest apparel. These people will eat, live, die, drink and breathe the sport.

What is important is that what the people want is sports apparel and that is exactly what they are getting. Whether your taste is more toward the traditional or the modern there is no need to worry because you will be able to find it.

Team spirit? Logo loyalty? Color craze? Who knows, but its working! The people are happy, the stores are happy and the sports franchises are happy. You even see the gear from teams you never used to see before, like the Tigers. Yes, they have been around for a long time, but you just didn’t used to see so many people wearing their clothing. Perhaps there will be more of that in the future. Athletic teams who have gotten little exposure before will suddenly be seen in all of the sportswear shops. How refreshing.
