Wonderful Presents For Men Are All Around Us…

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Selecting presents for men need not be a daunting task. In this article we will focus on ideas for finding and selecting that great gift. The holiday season is just around the corner, so the time to get started is now… In future articles we will feature our TOP PICKS of unique and special gifts, but for now, let’s examine ways to find the perfect gift for that special guy.

They say that one of the best ways to ensure that you get what you want is to go ahead and ask for it. So, why not ask that special guy on your list what he wants? He might not know, or might not tell you, but if you get some input on possibilities you will be that much further ahead. Be sure to listen intently to what he says, and make sure that you write your thoughts down on paper once you get a free moment. With a little deductive reasoning in your part you will have some potentially great gift ideas.

Different guys have different lifestyles. What type of lifestyle does the guy you are buying this gift for lead? Does he always seem to be working on the job? Is he a dedicated student who is working hard on getting that diploma or degree? Does he love to watch his favorite sports team on television, or even go to the games? Some guys love parties and are constantly dancing and drinking the night away. The lifestyle that a guy leads will often indicate the type of gift that he would like to receive.

What is his social status and economic level? If he’s loaded with money, he can literally afford everything he wants. There is no need to try to win him over with an expensive present when he can just go out and get it. You might want to consider getting him something more personal, like something you made yourself. It will add that personal touch and let him know that you cared enough to spend time on him.

Do you know this guy very well, or is your relationship more superficial or casual? How well you know this person will often determine the type of gift that you should get him. For example, if he is just a casual friend, getting him a suggestive T-Shirt would be inappropriate. Just consider what type of gift you would like to receive from him.

Hobbies are a great pastime, and if the guy on your gift list has a hobby, you have a great avenue on which to proceed. Gift that compliment hobbies are great to give because every time that guy spends time with his hobby, he will think of you. If you don’t know anything about this hobby, ask around. Post a question on the internet, or call a local hobby store. People love to talk about their hobbies and will give you great gift ideas.

We hope that this article has provided you with some great ideas on how to choose great presents for men. In our next article we will be offering our TOP PICKS. If you can’t wait, please navigate over to our blog to learn more.

Drum Samples: Uncompressed or Not?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Using uncompressed drum samples can be very unappealing to new music producers and beat makers, but anybody who has a real love for audio and an unbridled admiration of music and sounds that are true to their source will venture into the compression-less world sooner or later. Compression is basically the process of increasing the volume of the quiet parts of a song, piece of music or drum sound. It has been around since at least the 60s, possibly earlier.

Compression on drum samples can come into your workflow at two stages. The first is the drum sample selection process. This is where you’ll find the samples that were appropriately compressed by the library manufacturer, and hopefully not overly compressed. If you’re finding that a lot of your samples are ‘banging’ and very loud before even coming into your song, you’re probably dealing with samples that have had all the life sucked out of them already.

The second point at which compression will play apart is the final mixing process. This is where you would electively apply some compression using software or hardware audio compressors on drum samples or slight applications to soft instruments like the piano. The main creative difference here is that you are not subject to the over-compression used by many sound editors. Your decisions from here are truly coming from you.

Nearly every song that plays on the pop radio stations has a great drum pattern, with all drum samples cutting through the mix. This is very important as a lot of car radios still have speakers that aren’t so great at getting all the frequencies across, so a good mix is essential. While over-compression has had a lot of ’stick’ in the audiophile community, creative uses are not scarce. You just need to look to dance music and analyze the ‘ducking effecting to see how popular some creative compression can become in a genre.

If any of the sounds you pick are necessary but overly compressed nonetheless, there are ways of adding some color back onto the canvas, and one of the first steps you could look at is editing the actual wav sample. You should be able to see the spike at the start of the sample if it does not encompass all of it. Then lower the volume of that section but allow it to blend in. What you may want to do is mix this with a similar, uncompressed sample and set the latter to about 30% mix. This will give the sample some extra crispness, and while some of the same frequencies will be boosted, the overall effect will be much more natural.

A popular compression process that many Rock n Roll and Hip Hop producers are huge advocates of is the NY Compression technique. At its most basic level, it’s simply taking the same sample, one version of which has been compressed to the maximum amount and mixing it with itself. So you have a drum sample that is very punchy and cutting, while it still shows signs of the original variance.

If you want to make rap beats, good on you! It can be easy for some, hard for others. An important step when making rap beats is learning rhythm, so if you have that, you’re one step ahead of the pack.

My Top 5 Xbox 360 Games of All-Time

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

It’s amazingly been 3 whole years since I bought my Xbox 360, and I thought I’d give a quick rundown about the best games I’ve ever owned. I have a slight partiality toward sports games, so there may be a bit of a bias here. Don’t hold it against me. Nonetheless, this is about my favorites, so whatever I say goes!

5- Tiger Woods golf. I’ve always been a huge fan of this series, dating back to my high school days when the game had first come out on the Playstation system. This is as real as it gets as far as golf games go, and amazingly, the game seems to improve each time they release a new version. I love it.

4- John Madden football. I don’t even know which year to choose, I love this game so much, but if we’re talking about the Xbox 360, we have to go with the most recent one, Madden 2010. This is an exceptional football game, and after getting it wrong during the first release for the 360, the Madden series has returned to its former glory.

3. Fight Night Round 3. A classic boxing game that came out right after the launch of the Xbox 360 console. Somehow, it still feels just as new and relevant today. How many games can you say that about four years later? Enough said.

2. Call of Duty 4. The very definition of online play was changed with this game, and it was all for the better. Multi-player gaming was never as fun as it was once this game came out, and I still can’t think of a game I’d rather play online.

1. Rock Band. This one may bug some pure “gamers”, but the most fun I’ve ever had on an Xbox 360 has come from playing Rock Band, hands down. Did I mention I’m a music lover too?

Switching To Snowboarding After Skiing

Monday, November 16th, 2009

If you are a skier and want to learn snowboarding, then you must first of all understand the difference between the two sports. The basic difference is that skiing is done on two skis while snowboarding is done on a single snowboard. You already know how it feels to slide across the snow with both your feet bound to an equipment, all you need to do is to get used to a single board instead of two skis.

In skiing, the weight of your body is spread across your feet which stand apart with a distance, but in snowboarding, you have to learn how to keep your balance while you are standing on a single snowboard with your body weight emphasized on the board’s edge. Because there are no poles to hold onto in snowboarding, you may find a little difficulty in the beginning but with time, you will get used to it. To cope up with this, first of all you need to learn how to fall. When we are learning snowboarding, we may fall many times on the snow and get several injuries, but you can only learn snowboarding if you learn from your own falls and get to know how we can fall safely so that we do not get any injuries or bruises.

Bindings in skiing and snowboarding are different too. Skiing has standard bindings while snowboarding has two different kinds of bindings: the first ones are used with the boots which are straps that bind your foot to the snowboard by going over your boot, the second type of bindings are step-in bindings which are mostly used for high performance snowboarding and are available with quick release lever also. If you are purchasing step-in bindings for snowboarding, then you will also need to purchase special step-in boots made by the same manufacturing company.

If you want to become a snowboarder from a skier, then you will also have to adjust with the stance. The main difference is that a snowboarder stands with his feet sideways on the snowboard in the surf position. You should also know that there are no standard stances in snowboarding and you have to choose what should be the difference between your feet and what should be the degree of angle of your feet.

A skier may be very fast at learning snowboarding because there are only a few adjustments that he will have to make. You can take some snowboarding lessons also through which you will quickly gain confidence for riding on the snowboard and you will soon be shredding through the mountain trails without tumbling.

Ready for a ski trip? Check out the great package deal today.

How Methods Of Music Storage Have Evolved

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

The music industry is one of the world’s biggest industries. It has been this way for many decades and it doesn’t appear to be deteriorating. Recently people are more and more able to download music for free illegally on the Internet which is creating problems in terms of the amount of money that can be made by musical artists.

Physical hardware such as vinyl record and record tape used to be the only way in which you were able to acquire music. The first changes came about with the first CD that was produced.

The first medium to store music digitally so that it can be stored as a file and then put onto a computer and played was of course the CD. This was then the very first steps of the birth of the mp3.

From that, music storage adapted to the point where it was completely unrecognisable to the way it was stored in say, the 60s. In around 20 years the way we listen to music went from having to have access to a record player, which were by no means small, and your desired record, to simply having to have a device no bigger than the palm of your hand to which you can add or remove songs as and when you feel like it.

Being able to listen to music has become so much easier over the years and it has also become a considerable amount cheaper. From many different websites music can now be brought and downloaded; this is usually done in an mp3 format. This process is a lot cheaper than going to the shops and buying a CD. This is causing people to favour the downloading of the mp3 more and more and this is causing the need to create CD less and less. This also means that companies’ costs are less so they do not need to charge as much to cover them.

Buying Guide for a Portable Karaoke Machine

Monday, October 12th, 2009

It can be fun shopping for a portable karaoke machine. With just a small amount of research, you will find that you are informed well enough to make a good buy. Prior to shopping for your new karaoke machine, consider these factors:

1. Features

Features and Flexibility work hand in hand with any Karaoke unit. There are several features which you will need to decide that you need or not. These include adjustable gain for the microphone inputs as well as whether the Karaoke unit has onboard effects, such as reverb. Reverb is especially important to making many singers sound better, adding a little bit of a echo sound to the singing.

Another feature to look for is the type of microphone input. Many lower-end machines, especially portable Karaoke machines, tend to make do with 1/4 inch inputs. These can limit your choices of upgraded microphones later.

Better karaoke machines have an XLR input. An XLR input gives you a better signal path; this enables you and all singers to get better results from any microphone used. A karaoke machine with XLR inputs is recommended if you intend to upgrade microphones or if you want the microphones that bands use. Coming in at about the size of a dime, XLR inputs have three holes. On the other hand, a ? inch input looks like a headphone jack.

2. Flexibility

In terms of flexibility, consider how well the machine holds up to different locations, different television sets, and different music file types. A good portable unit is one that can hookup to any type of TV, including today?s latest digital TVs. With that said, even modern televisions have the ability to play video from the single yellow cord that comes with an RCA input. What you may want to consider is if the machine can send signals to numerous TVs at once. Quality portable karaoke machines should have at least two outputs; this enables the singer and the crowd to watch separate screens.

The other element of flexibility is whether the machine will play CD-R’s that you have burned karaoke content onto. Finding Karaoke music online is easy but if you have to order it and have it shipped it adds cost and time to any additions to your music library. Some new karaoke machines have USB ports so you don’t even have to burn a CD. Simply plug a portable memory device in and go.

3. Price

Finally, your purchase is going to boil down to how much it costs. Especially with portable units, the prices vary quite a bit. The features and flexibility dictate how much the machine will cost. You will want to decide on a budget, as well as which features are must haves. From there, you will want to find the karaoke machine that best balances those needs.

Picking Out The Right Song To Sing On Stage

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

The largest determination that anyone has to make for karaoke is what song they should undertake on stage. There are literally hundred of thousands of tracks accessible with most karaoke sets, so it can be discouraging looking through the great book of songs, but if you keep in mind a few points it will make your night simpler, and render as much enjoyment as possible.

First, make sure that you choose a karaoke track that accommodates your articulation. Whether it is your 1st time or 101st time, you have to make sure that you can reach at least majority of the musical notes you need. If you have a low voice, there is no point of opting music stars like Celine Dion or Whitney Houston, and the same goes for high-pitch voices; Barry White should be out of the question. Rather choose karaoke tracks that fit within your range, and that way instead of concerning about if you can hit that powerful note coming up, you will be able to unwind and just enjoy the song.

Choosing the correct karaoke track also depends on what you are getting up stage for. If you are with acquaintances, and looking at getting up as a group for a bit of fun, it is wise to choose an up-tempo song that accommodates your mood instead of a dull ballad. If you are a regular, and want to take something a bit more serious, there is nothing wrong in picking out a slower song if you can address it.

If you’re celebrating an adult / older folks birthday with a karaoke party. You want to understand what songs to opt. Do your homework. You don’t want to select any old karaoke song; you require to select karaoke music that stirs a feel of nostalgia. Identify what songs were modern when the party honoree grew up. Your easiest bet is to identify the top 10 songs of each year or decade and construct your play list round those songs.

But a minute point to think about most karaoke bars is that most individuals are out to have a good time, so selecting a slow and depressing song that does not truly fit the ambiance of the room can have drastic impressions.

Ultimately, when selecting your karaoke song it is better to find a song with a melodic line and words that you are at least intimate with. You do not have to recognise every song you get up stage for off by heart (thats why the karaoke screens are there to aid you) but selecting a karaoke song that you have heard more than once or twice will give you a bit more confidence in singing on stage.

NFL Admits to Error in Planning at Cowboys Stadium

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

The subject of much NFL chatter these days has revolved around the new video unit inside the brand new Cowboys Stadium. This is the largest high definition video unit in existence, and is one of many luxuries present in the new stadium. There was an event that took place a few weeks ago that leads many to believe there was poor planning with respect to this unit.

Just a few weeks ago, during the first ever game played inside Cowboys Stadium, the team faced off against the Tennessee Titans in a preseason football game. During this game, a ball was kicked by Tennessee’s punter. The punted ball went high enough to hit the video unit, leading to immediate concerns that its height must be adjusted.

Fortunately, the NFL is not only taking the blame for poor planning, but has vowed to fix the issue as quickly as it possibly can.

This report essentially states that Ray Anderson, who heads up operations for the league, admitted that the league should have done some more research into the ideal height for this video screen, as it could clearly be an issue during the season.

Anderson has come out and stated that the height estimations that the NFL put together were way off base, and that the planning done with respect to this unit was far from proper. The league kind of just “winged it”, assuming that 85 or 90 feet would be ample as far as the height went. He also promised that the issue will be fixed as soon as possible.

Jerry Jones, owner of the dallas Cowboys, also vowed to correct the issue. Until the unit itself can be moved, he’s stated that an ad hanging from the bottom of the unit will be taken away.

This video unit has a reported value of $40 million, and spans over 60 yards in length, as it extends from the 20 yard line, all the way to the other one. The height of this board is 73 feet.

At the end of the day, this is an issue that must be dealt with. The stadium is a beautiful one, but there’s no question that playability is more important than glitz when it comes down to it. Look for a quick solution to the issue based on the above.
