The Iomega EMC corporation has been selling hard drives and network security for almost 30 years. Their products speak for themselves, and they lean more towards the business owner demographic. They do sell their Iomega hard drives to regular consumers, but they are more well known for mass production.

They don’t distribute hard drives to put in your computer, however, but stick to portable hard drives. They are most known for their security aspect, meaning data backup and recovery as oppose to general information storage. In fact, their most reputable number is the REV removable backup-drive and has been one of the key contributors to their fame.

This fame, as a matter of fact, is what got them into the 2009 Fortune World’s Most Admired Companies. It’s not easy to make that list, so even though their products speak for themselves, so do their customers. And you know, with that sort of claim and title, that they are going to stand by their product. After all, if a company that is about data security can’t be trusted, what business could they possibly have?

For data storage, they offer two different styles of desktop hard drives. They have the prestige and eGo brands, and each one unique. The prestige series is the large of the two, and looks more like a computer. It comes in 4 different storage sizes: 500GB, 1TB, 1.5TB, and 2TB. They use USB 2.0 for data transfer, as it is the fastest currently available (universally, anyway).

The other, the eGo brand, is more aesthetically pleasing. It comes in 3 different colors: jet black, midnight blue, or ruby red, but only one size, and that’s 1TB. They’re more expensive, but that’s probably because of their rather unique feature. Each eGo portable hard drive comes with a physical lock and key, as if the drive itself weren’t secure enough.

Other than Iomega hard drives, they also have online storage. For an annual fee, you can automatically backup your files or use it to save space on your PC. They feature a home edition for your general storage or a professional edition for businesses. With their strength being in corporate services, naturally their professional edition is going to be higher end.

There’s always fear of losing your documents or information. Storing things on computers always gives people the willies, and making sure you never lose it seems impossible in the end. Iomega, however, has been awarded for their ability to backup information, so one shouldn’t be so afraid. Though, I believe, the real reason people lose so much information on computers is they forget to save it.
