The Amazing, Constantly Evolving World of Medicine
Monday, November 14th, 2011Ever since healthcare science was initially introduced to our society, it has been consistently changing and developing. Health professionals have discovered ways to cure an increasing number of illnesses and keep improving on these discoveries. Vaccinations have been developed along with various medications, medical equipment and more. Besides cancer, there are hardly any illnesses that a healthcare professional can not cure or alleviate.
Recently, my family had a scare when my dad suffered a second heart attack at the age of 55. The doctors were able to resuscitate him and keep him alive when he was not strong enough to stay alive by himself. Medical device development is incredible. The equipment hospitals have available to them can keep people living while they recover. My dad was attached to a ventilator which did the breathing for him until his lungs were well enough to function on their own again. Then, as time progressed, the team of doctors realized my father’s heart was irregular and decided to insert an ICD, implantable cardioverter defibrillator. This device is for individuals whose heart irregularities are both fast and slow, which was the situation with my dad and one of the causes of the heart attack. The gadget functions as a pacemaker as well as a defibrillator. My dad has become as healthy as one can be after living through two heart attacks prior to the age of 60 and I am in awe at the remarkable work the nurses and medical professionals could achieve.
The entire time my dad was dealing with this trauma, I was incredibly captivated by the equipment and devices that have been produced. These tools are created and assembled in medical machine shops that provide the products to hospitals. As further research is done, cures and solutions to more illnesses will be found. The field of medicine will constantly continue to broaden and get better. More vaccines, cures for illnesses and medical tools will be discovered and made. Given how many illnesses now have cures, I have total faith that one day even a cure for cancers will be found.
