Switching To Snowboarding After Skiing

Monday, November 16th, 2009

If you are a skier and want to learn snowboarding, then you must first of all understand the difference between the two sports. The basic difference is that skiing is done on two skis while snowboarding is done on a single snowboard. You already know how it feels to slide across the snow with both your feet bound to an equipment, all you need to do is to get used to a single board instead of two skis.

In skiing, the weight of your body is spread across your feet which stand apart with a distance, but in snowboarding, you have to learn how to keep your balance while you are standing on a single snowboard with your body weight emphasized on the board’s edge. Because there are no poles to hold onto in snowboarding, you may find a little difficulty in the beginning but with time, you will get used to it. To cope up with this, first of all you need to learn how to fall. When we are learning snowboarding, we may fall many times on the snow and get several injuries, but you can only learn snowboarding if you learn from your own falls and get to know how we can fall safely so that we do not get any injuries or bruises.

Bindings in skiing and snowboarding are different too. Skiing has standard bindings while snowboarding has two different kinds of bindings: the first ones are used with the boots which are straps that bind your foot to the snowboard by going over your boot, the second type of bindings are step-in bindings which are mostly used for high performance snowboarding and are available with quick release lever also. If you are purchasing step-in bindings for snowboarding, then you will also need to purchase special step-in boots made by the same manufacturing company.

If you want to become a snowboarder from a skier, then you will also have to adjust with the stance. The main difference is that a snowboarder stands with his feet sideways on the snowboard in the surf position. You should also know that there are no standard stances in snowboarding and you have to choose what should be the difference between your feet and what should be the degree of angle of your feet.

A skier may be very fast at learning snowboarding because there are only a few adjustments that he will have to make. You can take some snowboarding lessons also through which you will quickly gain confidence for riding on the snowboard and you will soon be shredding through the mountain trails without tumbling.

Ladies Golf Apparel and Fashion

Friday, August 14th, 2009

I was perusing one of those ‘Golfing for Women’ magazines the other week and started wondering where the women live, who wear the golf attire modeled in women’s golf magazines? I’ve never seen women, not even the professionals, who would dress in such expensive and outrageous clothing.

It’s easy to spend lots of money fitting yourself out for golf. What with hats, sunglasses, gloves, shirts, shorts, socks, windsheeters and shoes, the costs add up very quickly, even if you do your shopping at the sales. Then factor in the cost of clubs, balls, bag, cart and fees and you have to play very often to keep the “CPU” (cost per use) down to a reasonable level.

One glossy advert showed a beautiful model in very short shorts (as if that’s allowed on courses!) that cost nearly $300, a golf shirt at almost $600, a jacket by Ralph Lauren at almost $200 and two-toned Utuser shoes costing $400 plus.

That adds up to about $1,500! I know that I could never hope to get the CPU on that outfit down to anywhere near a normal level in my lifetime! Don’t misunderstand me - I love clothes and I really love shoes, but could never afford, or even want, golf shoes or pants that cost more than most people’s weekly wage.

OK, you need comfy golfing shoes that don’t look like a pair of clogs, but really, you can buy cheaper and still fantastic golf shoes.

I have bought a couple of very stylish golfing outfits, even though none of them are famous brand names. If I were to add up the cost of all of those articles of clothing, it would not come to the price of a Tse golf shirt. Personally, I would prefer to have a few stylish outfits than one that is priced way over-the-top.

If I were to wear a $1,500 set of golfing apparel to play golf in, I would just be too worried about getting it dirty or sweating in it to enjoy a decent round of golf.

The Fundamentals of Tennis.

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

I expect that this initial effort of mine into the world of writing will find a place with both novices and experts in the tennis world. I am trying to interest the student of the game by a somewhat prolonged discussion of match play, which I trust will cast a new light on the game of tennis.

I will address the novice in my opening and speak of certain matters which are second nature to the skilled player. The best tennis equipment is not much good for the beginner even if he really is trying to succeed. However, one has to buy good quality; it is a saving in the end, as good quality material far outlasts poor quality gear.

It is important to always dress in tennis attire when playing tennis. The question of selecting a tennis racquet is a much more serious matter. I do not advocate forcing a certain make of racquet upon any player, since all the standard brands are excellent. However, it is on the weight, balance, and size of handle that the real value of a racquet frame depends, while good stringing is essential to obtain the best results.

After you have selected your racquet, make a firm resolve to use only good tennis balls, as a regular bounce is a great aid to advancement, while a “dead” ball is no use at all. If you really desire to succeed at tennis and advance rapidly, I strongly urge you to see all the good tennis you can. Study the play of the leading players and try to copy their strokes. Read all the tennis instruction books you can find. They are a great help.

More tennis can be learned off the court, in the study of theory, and in watching the top players in action, than can ever be learned in actual play. I do not advise miss opportunities to play tennis. Far from it. Play whenever you can, but strive when playing to put in practice the theories you have read or the strokes you have watched.

Do not allow yourself to become discouraged by lack of progress. The manner of playing some stroke you have worked on over weeks in vain, will suddenly come to you when least expected. Good tennis players are the product of hard work. Very few players are born geniuses at the game. Tennis is a game that pays you interest all your life. A tennis racquet is a letter of introduction in any town.

The fellowship of tennis is universal, since none but a fit sportsman can succeed in the game for any lengthy period of time. Tennis offers relaxation, excitement, exercise, and pure enjoyment to the player who is bound fast to his business until late afternoon.

The following is the order of development that produces the quickest and most lasting results: i. Concentration on the game. ii. Keep the eye on the ball. iii. Foot-work and weight-control. iv. Strokes. v. Court position. vi. Court generalship or match play. vii. Tennis psychology.

Concentration. Tennis is played first with the mind. The best racquet technique in the world will not be enough if the directing mind is wandering. There are many causes of a distracted mind in a tennis match. The chief one is loss of interest in the game. No one should play tennis with any expectation of real success unless he cares enough about the game to be willing to do the practice necessary to learn the game correctly.

Jack it in right now if you are not willing to work very hard. The weather, conditions of play or the murmurs in the gallery often bewilder even very experienced match-players playing in new surroundings. Complete and utter concentration on the game is the only remedy for a wandering mind, and the sooner that lesson is learned the quicker the improvement of the player.

The best way to keep a game in focus is to try for every set, every game in the set, every point in the game and, eventually, every shot in the point. A set is merely a conglomeration of made and missed shots, and the man who misses the least is the final victor.

Fashion Ideas For The 2009 Season

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Do you want to feel jazzed? Well, this can be achieved by a big part of women by buying some new purses, outfits and most of all, shoes for this spring to come. If you dress well, you’ll feel well. This is already known that nice clothes may influence the mood.

All fashion gurus would tell you that. They come up with new collections at regular intervals of time, especially to create the expectation among women who are fans of designer bags. Isabella Fiore, Cole Haan or Lous Vuitton make no exception to this rule.

For the spring of 2009, it’s time for a designer bags make over. Why shouldn’t one be allowed to say what I mean when that writes shopping so well. Bid brands like Gucci or Cole Haan, or Isabella Fiore show us that creativity never dies.

This is a fast growing market. Sometimes I’ll read about clothing designers and I honestly have no idea what it is all about. This is not easy to understand and most of the regular readers here already know this.

Then there are people that just use designer bags for most of their needs. If you’ve ever read an article about that, you will have read about several kinds of fashion. There is the high class fashion, for celebrities, the street fashion, for those like me and you, and the business fashion, for business women and men.

Making people understand the importance of purses for a lady, is quite difficult, as men don’t have the same needs as women. Your potential for fashion is augmented in ways that are not confined within the walls of this. However, if girls feel good when buying new bags, why shouldn’t they do this more often?

Recently, artificial leather came into attention of great bags designers, because we all strive to become more environment friendly in our actions. This means we shouldn’t kill so many animals just for the fur and the leather for purses and clothes.
